Saturday 18 June
It poured with rain all last night and this morning but eventually stopped soon after I packed away my very soggy tent. With the clouds lifting I walked up past a lake where a group of teenagers were huddled in a wet teepee. The lake was picturesque but not as spectacular as the waterfall in the woods.
Shortly after, the path opened up onto a ridge. I took a diversion south to see the Gorges de Galamus however the bridge had been washed away and the footpath diverted down to Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet.
I did see my first Patou in the valley however. Patou are large white dogs that are kept out with the sheep as puppies, and grow up defending the flock against wolves, bears and wild dogs.
The valley was beautiful, hot and sunny full of huge butterflies as big as your hand and many vineyards. I decided to camp in town but the campsite was a little disappointing.
